Each new year, our thoughts turn to ways we could improve our lives so that this year is better than the last. Many of the suggested resolutions like joining the gym or traveling can cost more than we’re willing to put in and let’s face it, saving money is often something else we’ve all resolved to do more of in the coming months. Fortunately, your public library can help you find myriad ways to make changes at virtually no cost!
In the first quarter of 2017, the librarians at the Deale Community Library will be showcasing the library resources and staff knowledge that can help you hold true to your resolutions during the programming series “New Year, New You.” All programs will be repeated twice -- please refer to the AACPL website (in case one of your resolutions is to write more down on your calendar) for dates, times and additional information.
Start with Style Your Wardrobe on Monday, January 9th at 7 pm and Saturday, January 21st at 11 am. Learn how to enhance your current wardrobe by styling & pairing your clothes in a new way! We invite participants to bring something from your wardrobe that you’d like to learn how to style or a piece of clothing that you’ve loved but feel needs new life.
Next, gain a better grasp of using your email in our Basic Email class on Tuesday, January 17th at 2 pm and 7 pm. Participants will set up a Gmail email address if they don’t already have one and learn how to access it from any computer. You will also learn how to send emails, include attachments, and organize your inbox.
On Monday, January 23rd at 2 pm and 7 pm, join us for our Online Dating Workshop. Online dating can be intimidating! Hear about online dating options and tips for creating a good profile and taking a picture that represents you. We’ll also cover keeping yourself safe as you navigate the online dating world.
Job hunting is also a common new year’s resolution. Attend the Find a Job program on January 30th at 2 pm and 7 pm and explore the best places to find jobs online. You’ll also be introduced to library resources that can help improve your cover letter and resume.
The last "New Year, New You" program is Explore Your Family Tree on February 20th at 2pm and 7 pm. There are many library resources that can help whether you’re just starting your family tree or trying to fill in some of the tiny branches. Find out how to get started with genealogical research using premium resources provided free by AACPL.
AACPL looks forward to helping you find new ways to stick to your resolutions. We hope you resolve to visit the public library in 2017 to find out more!
