Mr. Roland is on the Board of Trustees of the University of Maryland Baltimore Foundation and is a member of the Annapolis Rotary Club where he is Chair of the Ethics Committee and the Photography Committee. Mr. Roland was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Anne Arundel County Public Library Foundation, serving until September, 2016. He was also on the Board of Trustees of the Hammond-Harwood House from 2007 to 2016.
Mr. Roland spent his entire career in printing and advertising, starting with The Los Angeles Times in 1966. When he retired in 2006, he was Chairman of Vertis Communications, one of the world’s largest printing and advertising firms. As CEO of TC Advertising (which later became Vertis Communications), he moved the company’s headquarters to Baltimore in 1995 from Southern California and moved his home to Annapolis. He earned his undergraduate degree in Printing Management from California State University at Los Angeles, his master's degree in economics from the University of California at Riverside and completed additional graduate programs at the Anderson School of Business at UCLA and the Drucker School of Business at Claremont Graduate University.
