 PUBLIC LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR
Anne Arundel County Public Library System (AACPL), Annapolis, MD, a dynamic and innovative library located in the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area on the beautiful Chesapeake Bay, invites applications for the position of Library Administrator. AACPL has 15 full-service branches serving a population of 500,000+; FY’11 operating budget of $15.3 million; FY’11 capital budget of $1.8 million; annual circulation 5.5 million; staff 272 FTE’s. Major Responsibilities: Under direction from the Board of Trustees, provides executive management, leadership, and control for the operations of the Library System.
Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS required, with additional degree or course work in management or administration preferred. Ten years of progressively responsible public library experience, at least six of which have been at the senior management/administrative level; demonstrated ability to work successfully with elected officials; proven public library management and leadership ability; successful record in budgetary planning and control; substantial experience in library building design and maintenance; knowledge and understanding of current library technology; knowledge of the principles and current practices of public library collection development; expertise in strategic and tactical planning techniques; demonstrated commitment to public service; demonstrated commitment to teamwork, staff development, open communication; experience in employee relations; excellent public relations and communication skills; ability to be a library advocate in the community and to work with the Library Foundation to accomplish its goals.
Compensation Package: Full benefits package; starting salary
negotiable from $130,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Volunteer
Opportunities
The
Anne Arundel County Public Library Foundation will be co-hosting
a week-long Book Fair in November in partnership with Barnes & Noble,
and is in need of volunteers to help make it happen!
We are looking for:
• creative people with lots
of ideas
• individuals with just a few hours or those who want to be
more involved
• people who care about supporting the library
Specific types of tasks we need help with include:
• brainstorming ideas for
the event
• contacting potential speakers
• helping to develop a marketing plan
• creating written materials to advertise our Book Fair
• working with local businesses to partner on the event
• attending portions of the event to help on whatever is needed

AACPL branches are often looking for volunteers
to assist staff with a variety of library activities such
as unpacking of books, book repair, filing and computer orientation.
These positions usually require the ability to bend, lift
boxes and books, use a hand held scanning device, and to
stand for periods of time. Training for volunteers
is provided by staff and other volunteers. If interested,
