AACPL Announces Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

Unveils Latino Outreach Program

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (September 15, 2016) – Officials from the Anne Arundel County Public Library today announced their lineup of events and activities to mark National Hispanic Heritage Month.

In addition to five family-friendly events, the Library also announced a new initiative, called ALO or Anne Arundel County Public Library Latino Outreach. The program aims to promote library services to the Latino Community, highlight Latino culture and celebrate our county’s diversity.

“Through special cultural events, bilingual Storytimes and in collaboration with the public school system and other institutions, we look forward to better serving the needs of Latinos in the county through our ALO program,” said Library CEO Hampton “Skip” Auld.

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, the library is offering five events at locations around the county including:

Wednesday, September 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Odenton Regional Library

Students from the World Music & Dance Studies program at Anne Arundel Community College join forces to present a fun and educational program celebrating Afro-Brazilian performing arts.


Saturday, September 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Hilltop Elementary in Glen Burnie.

Enjoy exhibitions, hands on activities, bilingual reading materials, bilingual Storytimes, cooking demos, scavenger hunt and bilingual games! In addition, the musical duo, Cantaré, will take us on a tour of Latin America through their music. Program in partnership with AACPS Bilingual Facilitators.


Thursday, October 6, at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. at the Edgewater Community Library

Join Sandy and Angela on their travels and find out all the surprises a suitcase can hold!


      Saturday, October 8, at 2 p.m. at the Edgewater Community Library

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a colorful, entertaining and educational fashion show. Enjoy traditional Mexican dresses, music and gastronomy! Program in partnership with AACPS Bilingual Facilitators.


      Friday, October 14 at 11a.m. at Marley Station Mall’s Center

Let’s celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a sing along activity, parachute games, a puppet show by Blue Sky Puppets Theatre, prizes, give aways and much more! Welcoming children birth to five and their caregivers. Program in partnership with the Judy Center and AACPS Birth to Five Programs


The Library is also offering a special program for customers wishing to practice their Spanish speaking skills. The Conversational Espanol & Bag Lunch program is scheduled for September 23, October 7 and 21 at noon at the Annapolis Regional Library.
