On September 30, 2022, more than 350 guests from across the county gathered in person at the Michael E. Busch Annapolis Library for the annual For the Love of the Library to celebrate and make their library better. Partners and attendees of this event raised over $92,000 for the library!
Guests were able to:
- mingle with fellow library lovers and friends.
- grab a signature drink from their favorite celebrity bartender while enjoying gourmet food from Chesapeake Chef Services.
- explore the library after hours and get a behind scenes look where our amazing library staff “make the magic happen.”
- get creative in the Makerspace.
- and so much more!
…All while making a significant difference for the library’s kindergarten readiness programs.
Did you know that sixty percent of children in Anne Arundel County are not ready for kindergarten? Your library is an established educational leader and social and community safety net in our county. The library’s role is to enhance and support the work that teachers, caregivers, social workers and so many others are doing to help the children get ready for school. For decades, your library has been helping families get children ready for school by offering thriving kindergarten readiness programs, and this need is now more critical than ever.
Gifts from For the Love of the Library will help our staff reach those who cannot get to the library or who do not know what the library can offer them and their families. They will also fund kindergarten readiness programs, services and resources needed to support the five practices of early literacy: sing, talk, read, write and play at all 16 branches of the library. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and partners, they have ensured that the library can do its part to help children be ready for kindergarten.
“I am extremely grateful to all the donors, sponsors and staff of this wonderful event for their dedication to kindergarten readiness and to the library,” said Library CEO Charles “Skip” Auld. “With these funds and Anne Arundel County’s strong commitment, the library is poised to provide all of the experiences, opportunities, programs and services that will help children and their families be ready for formal schooling,” he added.
