“Madness is a haunting history of Crownsville Hospital, a segregated asylum in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Sweeping in its reach, the book—with its use of oral history and a rich archive—offers an astonishing account of the complex relationship of race, racism, and mental healthcare in America. But there is something more intimate in these pages: a story about families, about the failures of our country, and about the madness that touches us all. A powerful read!” — Eddie S. Glaude, Jr. Princeton University professor.
Antonia Hylton is a Peabody and Emmy-award-winning journalist at NBC News reporting on politics and civil rights, and the co-host of the hit podcast Southlake. She graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University, where she received prizes for her investigative research on race, mass incarceration and the history of psychiatry. She lives in Brooklyn.

Cheers to AACPL as we "Read Banned Books"
Forward Brewing, Crooked Crab Brewing Co, Pherm Brewing Co, and Hysteria Taphouse have joined forces yet again to celebrate the library and your right to read!
Cathleen Sparrow, Executive Director of the AACPL Foundation, speaks about this exciting partnership in this interview by WMAR-TV2 News.
“Our library system and libraries across the country offer programs and access to all. We believe that you should have the right to read whatever book that you want. That's reflected in the collection that we have here in our library. We're a community connector. We want people to be educated and make their own choice. You can't make your own choice if you're limited in what you’re allowed to read. I also think some of the damages are if we have only have one kind book or one kind of thought process, we have one kind of society.”
