Youngest Library Customers to Enjoy Nearly 400 New Launchpads Recently Deployed to All Branches
Tablets Funded in Part by Library Foundation Event
(July 14, 2016–Annapolis, Md.) – Officials with the Anne Arundel County Public Library today announced that the library’s youngest customers can now enjoy new Playaway Launchpads at all branches. Only previously available as part of a pilot program at three libraries, these special Android tablets for children feature high quality, pre-loaded learning apps.
Library officials recently distributed 372 new Launchpads among all 15 county libraries paid for in part from funds raised at the Library Foundation’s annual event For the Love of the Library. The shipment rounds out the additional 105 already housed at the Brooklyn Park, Eastport-Annapolis Neck and Maryland City at Russett Community Libraries.
“We are pleased to be able to offer more of these popular learning tablets. Not only will Launchpads help even the playing field for parents who can’t afford high-priced electronics, but the devices will appeal to all families who are reluctant to allow children to use tablets with wireless access,” said Hampton “Skip” Auld, Anne Arundel County Public Library CEO.
The devices feature advertisement-free apps designed for children ages 3-7 years old. Featuring a 7-inch high-definition touchscreen, external speaker, universal audio jack and a protective bumper, the tablet is free of Wi-Fi and camera capabilities for a controlled user experience. The content supports early literacy and STEM education, as well as helps children to learn about the world around us.
“Along with reading, Launchpads can keep young minds focused on language and math activities all summer long,” added CEO Auld.
