New Glen Burnie Library

About the New Glen Burnie Library

Exciting news for Anne Arundel County! Plans are underway for a new, modern Glen Burnie Library, designed to be a 40,000-square-foot community space that includes a dedicated cultural resource center. This state-of-the-art facility will be built on the current site and aims to meet the diverse needs of our community.

Learn More and Give Feedback

The new Glen Burnie Library is currently in the schematic design phase, the next step of the design process where the project team translates the concepts into a preliminary building design with floor plans.

Over the past three months, we have been asking for and collecting feedback from community members about what they want to see in a new Glen Burnie Library. We held a community input session, distributed surveys, talked to customers at our programs and in the library, asked for feedback from our Teen Advisory Board members, held listening sessions with local school officials, and attended community meetings to solicit feedback. We talked to and received responses from over 1,000 of you! It’s clear that the people of Glen Burnie and its surrounding communities care deeply about their library system, and we are grateful for your support.

We are pleased to present the findings of our community feedback collection efforts.  The design team has taken this input and is finalizing a preliminary design that will be shared at a community meeting in Summer/Fall. The construction timeline will be developed and shared by early 2026.

Thank you all for your support and input!

Frequently Asked Questions

The new Glen Burnie Library is currently in the schematic design phase, the first part of the architectural design process, where a project team translates a concept into physical drawings. From start of design to finish, a building typically takes three years. When it is available, a timeline will be provided on this webpage.

The new library will be built on the footprint of the current site at Eastway, off Ritchie Highway.

Anne Arundel County has committed to funding a temporary library while the current building is closed for replacement. The location and opening date for the temporary library will be determined closer to when construction begins on the new library.

The new library will include a brand-new collection of books, public computers, group meeting room space, individual study rooms and more. Once the design phase is complete, we’ll have a better idea of what new features the library will offer.

The new building will be double the size of the existing library.
