Anne Arundel County Public Library to Open a Branch at Westfield Annapolis
Discoveries to Become First Mall Library in Central Maryland
(January 19, 2018–Annapolis, Md.) – In an effort to help more residents discover library services, officials today announced that a branch of the Anne Arundel County Public Library (AACPL) will open this spring at Westfield Annapolis. Called Discoveries: The Library at the Mall, the new branch is slated to open on April 30.
Customers will be able to enjoy new and classic books for kids, teens and adults; comfortable seating; a Discovery Dock children’s area; WiFi; self checkout capabilities; public computers; DVDs; a 3D printer and an area for customers to pick up materials placed on hold. Library staff will also offer weekly early literacy programs and educational events for kids and teens on a regular basis. Mall-goers will be able to sign up for library cards and discover all the exciting services a card provides including free streaming movies, online tutoring, eBooks, job resources and more.
The first mall library in Central Maryland, the unique partnership will provide services to area residents and mall customers during the rebuilding of the Annapolis Library in 2018 and 2019. The branch is made possible through the generous support of the Anne Arundel County Public Library Foundation and Westfield Annapolis.
Discoveries: The Library at the Mall will be located in a 3,000 square-foot storefront in the west wing of the mall across from Under Armour and near Crate and Barrel. The branch is expected to open in late April and operate Monday-Thursday from 10 am to 9 pm and on Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm.
“This new library will provide education, enrichment and inspiration to county residents and mall customers in a new way,” said Library CEO Skip Auld. “We are grateful to partner with Westfield Annapolis in providing this important community resource,” he added.
