This week, librarians from around the country traveled to Philadelphia for the American Library Association’s Midwinter Meeting. The highlight of this annual gathering is always the Youth Media Awards, where we celebrate the very best in the children’s and young adult literature of the previous year.
Over two dozen awards are given away and include the Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished picture book for children, Newbery Award for the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature, and Printz Award for excellence in literature written for young adults. One of the most exciting things to happen at this year's awards was the honor given to New Kid, by Jerry Craft, which is the first graphic novel to ever win the Newbery Medal.
Of course, you can find copies of all these award-winning titles at Anne Arundel County Public Library. Find the full list and descriptions of this year’s award winners in American Libraries, then check them out!
