New Resources for Early Learners

Is Your Child Ready for Kindergarten?

Preparing your child for kindergarten sets the stage for future learning and overall success. Anne Arundel County Public Library (AACPL) makes Kindergarten Readiness a priority by offering storytimes and school-readiness programs, learning resources, booklists and more to help young children cultivate the skills and behaviors they need to thrive in kindergarten and beyond.

In support of our Kindergarten Readiness Initiative, AACPL has added two new resources designed to help early learners develop the skills and knowledge to succeed when they begin school.

ABCMouse at Home

ABCMouse, the award-winning early learning program, is now available to access from home with your library card! ABCmouse is for children ages 2-8+, and covers reading and language arts, math, science, social studies, art and music. It is completely child-safe, with no advertising or links to other websites.

With 3,500+ interactive books, educational games, puzzles, and other learning activities, this online curriculum designed by experts in early childhood education is an invaluable resource for young learners. ABCMouse uses a Step-by-Step Learning Path consisting of guided topical lessons that incorporate books, puzzles, games, songs, art activities and printables. Lessons are designed to allow children to learn at their own pace, and each lesson includes several different ways to learn in order to accommodate all styles of learning. ABCMouse also provides learning activities that support young English language learners in learning the vocabulary, pronunciation and patterns of the English language.

The Parent Section of ABCMouse is a dashboard available for parents and caregivers to track their child’s progress, learn about the curriculum, view assessments, set weekly goals and customize time limits to limit screen time.

Using ABCMouse at home is easy! Visit ABCMouse and enter your library card number and PIN. You can also access ABCMouse via a mobile app for Android and for iOS.

Helping Children Bee Ready for Kindergarten

Gale Presents: Miss Humblebee’s Academy, an interactive, online preschool curriculum, is free through the library. It fosters early literacy skills in children ages 3 to 6—setting them up for success in kindergarten and beyond.

This award-winning program prepares young learners for school with hundreds of guided lessons using videos, music, eBooks and more. Kids will explore art, music, fitness, language, reading, math, science, social studies and social and emotional learning. To ensure screen time is limited, 40 percent of the material is off-line, and printable resources and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics) activities are included.

Parents and caregivers can track their child’s learning outcomes through weekly progress reports that are emailed and available online 24/7. Best of all, Miss Humblebee's Academy offers a safe learning environment—free of pop-ups, ads and links to other websites.
