Sewing at Odenton Library

Have you heard about the Creation Station at Odenton Library? It's a unique space inviting the AACPL community to come together for various creative endeavors. Recently, we added some new tools to the Creation Station's creative offerings – a pair of sewing machines.

Sewing One-on-One

You might be thinking, "I've never even touched a sewing machine!" or "It's been years since I've sewn." No worries! At Odenton Library, we've got you covered.

We are now offering one-on-one sewing appointments, during which a trained staff member will guide you through the sewing machine basics and safe operation. You'll even create your very own fabric bookmark to take home!

Our Sewing One-on-One appointments typically last about an hour and offer flexible scheduling throughout the week and on weekends. To secure a slot that suits your schedule, get in touch with the Odenton Library Information Desk at (410) 222-6277. Once you've gained confidence in using the sewing machines, you can book appointments to sew independently.

During your Sewing One-on-One session, we will provide all necessary supplies. Additionally, you'll have access to essential accessories like fabric scissors, pins and tailor's chalk when sewing on your own. We ask that participants be at least 11 years of age and note that we will need a parent or guardian to sign a waiver of liability for any participant under the age of 18.

We also offer access to a variety of sewing books for all ages and crafting video tutorials through Creativebug, so be sure to check those out if you need some creative help or inspiration!

Sewing Together

Interested in learning sewing as part of a group? The Odenton Library has exciting sewing programs planned for the upcoming Fall season. In September, join us to acquire skills in basic sewing repairs, allowing you to salvage your favorite outfits. Then, in October, we're offering a program where you can breathe new life into old fabric items through upcycling, contributing to the reduction of the millions of tons of fabric discarded in the U.S. each year. Check out our online calendar for new sewing programs and events.

To schedule your Sewing One-on-One appointment or to learn more about our upcoming programs, reach out to the Odenton Library Information Desk at (410) 222-6277.
