Blood Heir by Amelie Wen Zhao

By Audrey W., Crofton Middle School

Blood Heir is the first book of a fantastic trilogy, written by Amelie Wen Zhao. Anastacya Mikhailov, the crown princess of the Cryilian Empire, was framed for her father's murder. In her kingdom, people were blessed with powers to control the world around them given to them by their deities. These affinities could let you fly in the wind, let you move through the shadows unseen; there are countless things to which they may do. However, Ana’s affinity becomes her downfall, as it is the reason she was framed for her father's murder. Her power to control blood was kept secret, and to clear her name she must find her father's true murderer.

This book to me was amazing in all aspects, the imagery, and the plot, and I would often find myself staying up late in the night because I couldn't stop reading, waiting to see what happened next. The book really connects you to the characters, they felt real to me and it really pulled me into the story. There was nothing bad about the book for me, the plot kept twisting and turning in ways no one could have predicted. For anyone who likes mystery, and fantasy, with even a hint of romance, this book is perfect and was a 10/10.
