The Fates Divide by Veronica Roth

By Ehlana F., Glen Burnie High School

The Fates Divide is the second book in the Carve the Mark duology. The king- thought to be dead- returns to the throne and threatens the worlds with war. Cyra and Akos find their fates and each must make hard decisions to stop the war. Veronica Roth brings the action found in Divergent in this mind-bending and fast-paced read. Unlike Carve the Mark, The Fates Divide is faster, twisted, and more creative- making a better, page turning read. The second book was definitely better than the first in so many ways! This book is a one-sit read for sure! It’s so twisted and compelling- you never know what is going to come next.

I would not change anything about this book- it's very good and it is one of my all-time favorites (and I’ve read many books LOL). What I loved most about it was the lesson of fate. Fate does not have to turn out in one specific way, you have the ability to determine your fate in the way that you want. It is not set in stone and Veronica Roth perfectly captures this lesson in The Fates Divide. I recommend this book to anyone interested in young adult dystopian/fantasy books.
