Firelight (Amulet #7) by Kazu Kibuishi

By Shivani T, Old Mill High School

Emily and her friends make their journey to Algos Island, a place rumored to hold visitors's erased and/or forgotten memories, with the guidance of Emily’s stone. Meanwhile Emily’s brother, Navin, and his friends make their way to Valor, going through risky situations and even performing labor to get there. Throughout the story, Emily visits past memories with her late dad through lucid dreams as well as the influence of her stone and is met with decisions she must make for the safety of herself and the people around her while trying to maintain control of herself.

This book was suspenseful. Certain scenes tied back to the very first novel and gave readers an explanation as to why things played out the way they did and revealed plot twists that keep you turning the page. People’s histories are revealed, and we’re given more information as to what exactly the stone is. The characters express realistic emotions and act rationally based on the situations they’re presented with. Kibuishi blesses the readers with his great art style, contrasting colors, and beautiful scenery. The novel leaves you with a great cliffhanger and an idea as to what to expect in the next chapter.
