Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardugo

By Molly P., Severna Park High School

Right now, Rule of Wolves is the last book in the Grishaverse series by Leigh Bardugo. Before reading Rule of Wolves, readers should read Shadow and Bone, Seige and Storm, Ruin and Rising, Six of Crows, Crooked Kingdom, and King of Scars. The main storyline in Rule of Wolves features King Nikolai Lantsov and his most trusted Grisha, Zoya Nazyalensky while they struggle to wage war against Fjerda while also trying to keep

Nikolai´s secret safe. Meanwhile in enemy territory, Heartrender Nina Zenik continues her work as a spy for Nikolai and struggles to keep her cover while she lusts for revenge. Lastly, soldiers Mayu Kir-Kaat and Tamar Kir-Bataar aid Princess Ehri in attempts to negotiate with the Shu-Han Queen to get money for Ravka and stop a terrible program that turns people into mindless super-soldiers. Rule of Wolves easily surpassed my expectations. My favorite aspects of Rule of Wolves are the plot and the characters. The plot of this book is incredible. Leigh Bardugo seamlessly weaves the three storylines together in an epic story of war, friendship, loss, and love. The characters felt so real and they are incredibly easy to love. I enjoyed how this book revisited the characters from past books in the series such as Alina, Mal, Kaz, Inej, Jesper, and Wylan. The dialogue between the characters is humorous and spotlights their unique personalities. The only criticism I have is that King of Scars and Rule of Wolves were supposed to be Nikolai´s books but it felt like they were more focused on Zoya´s story. I would recommend this book to preteens and everyone older who loves a good fantasy with magic and a bit of romance.
