Scythe by Neal Shusterman

By: D'Ana B., Lindale Middle School

In this heart stopping book, we look into the future of a world where humans have conquered death.

In a world where death is no longer natural, humans must find a way to keep their population in check. Scythe’s are given the job of ending lives by gleaning. There is no such thing as government; Thunderhead (an incredibly advanced A.I) rules over everything. We watch as two apprentices compete against one another to become a scythe. But, what happens when the two apprentices get too attached to one another? Find out by reading Scythe by Neal Shusterman.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The author, Neal Shusterman, did what many people never even think of doing and wrote a book about what the world would be like if everything was in the hands of mankind. This book was well written and had amazing character development. I would recommend it to anyone who likes thrillers and heartfelt books. I really liked this book because it made me wonder what life would really be like in a world without natural death, hunger, disease, war and misery in general. I would recommend it to anyone from age 11 and up. It is also a part of a series called Arc of the Scythe, so if you liked this book, consider checking out the other ones.
