Supernova (Amulet #8) by Kazu Kibuishi

By Shivani T, Old Mill High School

Emily has now lost control of her Amulet and is trapped in the void and must find a way to escape while avoiding being deterred by the voice associated with the Amulet. Meanwhile, her family and friends focus on Alledia's survival. The characters felt real to me. Emily expressed real feelings of frustration while her family focused on both getting her back and the survival of Alledia. A part of the book that really draws me in is the interactions between Emily and the Amulet, going as far back as the first novel as well as Emily's relationship with her dad and how his death has affected her. The book is suspenseful and action packed, making you sit at the edge of your seat. The art style is really good as well, it isn’t sharp or boring; it’s smooth and colorful which you can already tell by the cover alone. The way Kazu draws the magic that emits from the Amulet is really cool since the colors are dull compared to it. The book really explored a fictional world with foreign creatures and floating islands, giving the reader an active imagination throughout the novel. I think teenagers would really enjoy this novel.
